Sharing and Repairing takes off in Bath

It’s been just over a month since we opened the doors to the Share and Repair Shop and the response from people in Bath has been truly encouraging.

We always have high hopes but the enthusiasm for the shop has exceeded even our expectations and forecast.

Quote: This is the best shop to open in Bath in the last 10 years.

The Library of Things – the Share part of the shop – has loaned out more than 80 useful items since we opened. Our most popular item is the professional carpet cleaner but the garden shredder and sander are not too far behind.

More than 50 new Library of Things supporters have also signed up. They’ve chosen from our updated Membership options which includes a new Super Supporter membership. This includes a donation that allows us to gift a membership to someone who needs it.

Which one will you choose?

And since we relocated to Broad Street 135 new ‘Things’ have been donated to the Library, from a drain snake to an ice cream maker, a ‘wall chaser’ to a body board! Think of all the exciting things you can now do when borrowing!

“Such a good idea”

When we reopened the Share and Repair Shop we knew we could get the Library of Things going again, but we were less sure how we’d find a way to start repairing again.

Step forward our clever, creative and keen volunteers who have helped us find a way to continue repairing beloved and essential items within the new shop on Broad Street. We have new screens and processes in place and our bookable repair sessions are proving popular.

“This is amazing, just what we need”

We think a lot of people have been making their coffee machines work extra hard over lockdown because we’ve already had five in to be repaired. All fixed and now ready for their owners to make a morning cuppa again.

And for one visitor John, it was fantastic to have his father’s headphones mended so he could continue to remember him whilst using them. Great work from volunteer repairer David.

What’s next?

We have been blown away by people’s generosity and enthusiasm. Whether it be offers of time, money, ideas, or donated items, so many people have come in the door eager to support Share and Repair. Since it opened the shop has been buzzing with a friendly and uplifting atmosphere thanks to our volunteers and supporters.

We are now paving the way to open our normal repair cafe venues (without the cafe element in the first instance and on a smaller scale until it is safe to resume as we used to).

Thank you Bath for your support.
