It’s The Bath Half Next Weekend!

There is one week to go until the Bath Half Marathon and our runners are getting ready for the big day!!

They’re trying hard to avoid coughs and colds before the big day and are each preparing in different ways, whether that is long runs, or shorter, more frequent runs. We’re sure they will smash the run – just running the half marathon is really impressive and we’re so proud of them! Read on to find out what each runner is up to.

Chris

“I have just started to do longer runs and am now building up the distance. Mainly 10-12 km runs currently but from this weekend I will be training at about 15km and above. I personally only like to run the actual distance once or maybe twice before the big day.

The weather is still making it hard going as it is cold and for me and work, the dark nights.

I am in a constant state of worry that I will get an injury or worse, I will pick up a cold. I travel a lot for my work so am cooped up on planes and trains and am often surrounded by people coughing and sneezing! Fingers crossed I keep fit and well”

“To prepare for the race, I’ve been doing a weekly 10k run but to be honest I should probably be doing more. Overall I’m feeling excited and I’m looking forward to supporting a good cause and challenging myself. Now that it is getting closer I think I’ll be more motivated to run more often.”

Jessie

“Training has been going ok, I have managed to thus far swerve any major coughs or colds that normally disrupt my winter running!

Each week has been different though and I have found the time slipping away from me. I’m trying to increase my long runs each week and my last was 8.5 miles. It means I won’t get up to the full distance before the race, but I’ve been trying a new regime where I am actually doing a little bit less running than normal, and more strength work to try and support my knees… the last couple of races I have done I have ended up in terrible pain with one or both of my knees, so I’ve decided I need to improve my leg strength so I can “enjoy” the race more!

Also, as part of my last month of training I’ll be soaking up the sunshine in Egypt for a week…! Not good timing for race preparation, but good for almost everything else! Most importantly I’m concentrating on not worrying about the preparation or the race – at this point a good race is mostly down to mindset!”

Peter

“This week I’ve been mostly enjoying the sunshine, so took the brave decision to get out on my bike for a 24 ride on the Somerset Levels. (Tea and brownies were not involved at all, honestly!)

I planned to do a 10k the next day, but I’d used up a surprising amount of energy on the bike so had to give it a miss.

I’m now tapering off and trying to ease off the pressure and enjoy the smaller efforts.

I’ve missed out on pretty much every long run I wanted to do, and haven’t got much over 5-6 miles all winter when my CFS hit hard.

But that’s ok, I’ll be there on race day, ready to roll!”

See you next Sunday and good luck to everyone who will be running! Will you be out there cheering the runners on, or are you running yourself?
