We had a really special repair recently!
Jenny brought this toy lorry into Share and Repair which had been made by her sister many years ago, however after years of fun play and a few bad “crashes” it needed some TLC.

The truck was well built, but was made from an older style plywood so was aging and delaminating in places. It needed a few new parts to replace components that had been damaged or broken off over time, and a lick of paint.
Our volunteer Ken took the truck home and got to work restoring it! He took apart the main components, filled in areas that were scratched and repainted them, and made new hinges.

The back doors had broken off in the past (in a very bad crash), so he added a new system that would prevent that from happening again, and updated the locking mechanism to a fancy new magnet closure!
The signage on the truck was very personal to Jenny as Sleep Haulage Co. was once a local haulage business run by her family, so Ken saved the hand painted signs and used photoshop to create additional signage for the lorry.

All in all, it was an incredible repair job on an amazing unique toy, and we’re very honoured to have been trusted with this! Hopefully it will keep “driving” for many years to come.
Ken has also created a document detailing the process of the restoration, with incredible detail in the file below. Read on to find out more!
